“I’m open to what’s new, but my favorite is rock.” — Julia Marino

Julia Marino does not do karaoke. Never, not once. Not only that, Marino also doesn’t remember the last concert that she went to. What’s the most shocking, though, she doesn’t even really care to see anything live in the future. Like, at all.

“I might go if my friends were going, but otherwise I never really thought of wanting to go and see a specific show,” said Marino of future concert-going ambitions. “I don’t go to many concerts.”

Don’t get it twisted, though. Marino’s relationship with music is full of love. Especially for classic rock.

“I’m open to what’s new, but my favorite is rock, especially older but contemporary as well,” said Marino before listing out Led Zepplin, T. Rex, The Rolling Stone and Jimi Hendrix off the top of her head as easy-listening favorites.

The heavy influence of classic rock comes directly from the gene pool. Marino’s dad not only passed on his taste in music to her but a collection of vinyl to go with it. When the classic energy starts to fade and Marino finds herself in search of something new, her friends serve as a second source of sounds.

“I like a lot of music, a lot of different kinds,” Marino assured. “I really like this new artist 070 Shake, she’s from New Jersey. She has good beats and good lyrics. It is hip-hop, but it is chill.”

What’s also new for Marino is riding while listening to music. Over the years she admits to not enjoying the combination of snowboarding to tunes, but as of late she’s been learning to love it.

“I’m giving it another go and it hypes me up in a different way,” said Marino in reference to riding with headphones—earbuds being the preference. “I only ride with one, though, and I don’t really enjoy music to the fullest with only one in.”

According to Marino, in the end, it’s in her car where she finds herself jamming out the hardest… and the softest.

“In the car I’m listening to more chill music like R&B or slower rock. Maybe hip-hop if I’m on a long drive. Also, road trip music when road-tripping.”

One thing she isn’t listening to on her Spotify Premium account while on the road, advertisements.

“Never! I could not deal with that.”
