On Rotation is a new weekly series that shows off a sample selection of what the world’s best are listening to. Each week a new playlist will drop on the Dew Tour’s Spotify account and so will a few words from the riders themselves, giving you personalized insight from the pros while you turn on their personalized playlist.

Cassie Sharpe has a music routine when she rides, and it works. Two weeks ago when she took home her second title in Dew Tour superpipe she had her playlist set to dance, techno and freakout. Then, on her first go she sent a left side 1080 to cap off her run a secure a score that would ultimately earn her the win. The rest was just part of the routine.

“If I’m chilling it’s usually more acoustic, like Shakey Graves or Andy Shauf, more chill, for sure. but on the hill… I go psycho,” said Sharpe, four days before earning her fourth Dew Tour podium. “The go-to is dance music, techno, freakout all that hype-me-up music.”

Not only is Sharpe cranking up music to boost her spirits, she is cancelling out the surrounding sounds before every run.

“I hate hearing the crowd, I hate hearing the announcers,” explained Sharpe after admitting her preferred way to ride was with noise-cancelling earbuds. “As soon I get to the bottom I’ll take them out and hear the crowd, but I just can’t focus when I’m in the pipe if I can hear things.

In addition to killing the noise, she removes the possibility of cellular distractions. Opting for an iPod over her phone, Sharpe says that she would rather not be bothered while riding with a call, text or app notification. She also admires the slim size of her iPod over her phone.

As an iPod user, Sharpe’s sounds play through Apple Music. When asked what was the newest music she had on rotation, she went to her recent downloads to show Mac Miller’s new posthumous album was officially in her queue.

Circles, it’s phenomenal!” said sharpe. “Blue World is the best song on the album, for sure.”

All in all Sharpe had a well-rounded musical taste from the acoustic influences coming from her fiancé, Justin, to her dad playing Top 40 on the drive to the mountain when she was younger giving her the pop influence. As for the freakout, hype and the psycho dance—Sharpe says that’s all her.

“I feel like music affects my mood. If I put on my psycho dance music, I’m going to get fired up.”
