Marie Martinod has lived the freeskiing dream not once, but twice. After competing for several years and reaching her goals in 2006, Martinod took several years off of competitive skiing to start a family and move toward a new future. However, her love of skiing and the support of her friends and fellow competitors Virginie Faivre and Sarah Burke, convinced her to return to the sport in 2013. Martinod came back with a bang as she won gold at X Games Tignes 2013 in Women’s Freeski Superpipe. She credits her success to experience and maturity, along with inspiration powered by the passing of her friend Sarah Burke. Martinod was in the inaugural class of freeskiers at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Not only did she help make history at her sport's debut, she also earned the prized silver medal.
