The Connecticut native originally preferred skiing over snowboarding but ended up making a switch when she was 12 years old. Though it was a late start in snowboarding relative to many of her peers, Marino progressed quickly enough that she captured a surprise victory at the 2016 Fenway Big Air contest when she was 18.

Despite being a member of the U.S. team, Marino does much of her training in Quebec with coach Max Henault. During this past season, she was one of the only girls landing cab double underflips regularly in competition. That trick helped propel her to slopestyle gold at the 2017 X Games, and she ended the season ranked No. 2 in slopestyle (behind Anna Gasser and ahead of Jamie Anderson) in the World Snowboard Tour standings.
