Who Will Take the Men’s Freeski Slopestyle Final?

The iON Mountain Championships are kicking off the last day of competition with the highly anticipated Men’s Freeski Slopestyle Final.  Top athletes from around the world will be laying it down in hopes of taking home a victory.  For the U.S. athletes, the pressure is on as Dew Tour is the first of five USSA-sanctioned Olympic selection events. They’ll need to bring their A-game for a chance to represent the inaugural U.S. Freeskiing team in Sochi.

Coming out of the qualifier, 16 athletes will advance to today’s final.  Expect the standings to change drastically as vets like Tom Wallisch and Gus Kenworthy throw down and move up the current rankings. Be on the look out for Nick Goepper, Russ Henshaw and Joss Christensen as they qualified in the top 3 spots on Thursday. The roster is stacked with talented riders that will be laying down impressive spins, technical tricks and high amplitude.

Nick Goepper qualified first and will be coming into the final with lots of enthusiasm and an arsenal of big tricks.

“This is the best course Breck has ever built, and this event means a lot. I really hope I do well here because this is a U.S. selection event for the Olympics. So, yeah, I’m stoked!”

This overly technical shredder threw down a qualifying run that included some serious switch maneuvers and solid 1080s. Using the course to his full advantage, we can expect another insane run from Goepper today.
