The ladies of Ski Slopestyle wrapped up the very last competition of Dew Tour Copper 2020 on Sunday afternoon. Due to the dramatically different conditions compared to practice days, the athletes were struggling to clear the jumps due to slower speeds as a result of the recent snowfall. Following warmups, Caroline Claire noted that the inconsistent sunshine was also a factor, as the sun would peek out during warm-ups and slow things down even more at times.

In turn, the riders gathered as a group and the decision was made to eliminate the jump section from the finals, with judging based solely on the rail section. This was beneficial to the girls who excel at rails and gave the opportunity for athletes like Johanne Killi and Mathilde Gremaud to continue their momentum coming out of the Streetstyle contest the night before. The variety, execution, and technicality on the rails are what the judges were looking for.

Some runs that were particularly impressive included Maggie Voisin crushing it with a front 6 out of the cannon, a back 2 off the rainbow by Johanne Killi, and tails 2 by Swiss style queen Mathilde Gremaud. Isabel Atkin performed a hand drag 3 over the knuckle for another creative approach.

Maggie Voisin noted, “it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t do a full slope run, but we’re making the most of it and this rail garden is awesome.”
