Cash and Pride Are on the Line in Cancun, Mexico

Cancun, Mexico – Seven months of intense training and fierce competition will boil down to one final event in the 2007 wakeboarding season, the Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships, presented by RockStar energy drink. The best riders in the world will take to the waters of Cancun, Mexico, Oct. 19-21, in hopes of earning the points they need to be named the world’s number-one rider.

“The level of intensity at this event is matched only by the level of talent involved,” said Sean Dishman of World Sports & Marketing. “The entire wakeboarding season comes down to this one event, so everyone is at the top of their game and riding their hardest.”

The Tige Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships is the final event of the 10-stop King of Wake series. Only the top riders remaining in the series will compete in Cancun, each vying to become the King of Wake and claim the $25,000 cash prize, the largest payout in the history of the sport.

The format for the Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships is unique. A “skins” format will be used again with riders accumulating points for skins as long as they keep winning. The rider with the most wins or skins will be declared the winner after Sunday’s competition.

The 2006 Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships winner, Rusty Malinoski, is in contention to repeat his success at this event, as he is currently in second place in the King of Wake series. But Malinoski will have to be at his best in Cancun as rising star Phillip Soven currently leads all riders in the standings. Rookie and team Tige rider, Adam Errington is another star that could take the top spot in Cancun, as he trails behind Malinoski in the standings.
