Bohan and Enarson Lead BMX Dirt Prelims

By Brendan Vail – The dirt prelims for this year’s Wendy’s Invitational brought out some of the best names in BMX. There were riders from all over the US and a large contingent of Australians too. The prelims decide who gets a spot in the finals, so everyone was pulling out their best tricks. The top nine will face the current top-three in Dew Tour standings (Josh Hult, Brandon Dosch, and Ryan Nyquist) int this afternoon’s finals.

Some of the highlights from the prelims were seeing Cory Nastazio do a front flip on the first set to a backflip on the second set. He also attempted a wild looking 360 flip but washed out on the landing. Chris Doyle landed himself in 4th with big 360 variations, great style, and even a 720 throwing in over the last set. Idaho’s Ben Voyles grew up riding with Chicago stop winner Josh Hult and let it show with moves like 720’s and a cannonball to tuck no hander.

Brazilian rider Diogo Canina was riding the course brakeless and spinning 720 X-ups, 720 barspins, and even flipwhips on his way to 7th place. Rob Darden also dug deep in his bag of tricks to pull out a backflip tailwhip as well as a 720 in the middle of the set which was very impressive, and got him 20th.

The large group of Australians in the group included Dane Searls, Luke Parslow, Jaie Toohey, and Cory Bohan who showed everyone some good trail style as always doing dialed 360 lookbacks and many other variations and taking 1st in the prelims. Behind him was Dennis Enarson and Ryan Guettler who came in second and third respectively. Check back later tonight for all the news on the finals.
