Wiig, Anderson Trump Slope Prelims

The Men’s and Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle Preliminaries were dominated by Norwegian superstar Andreas Wiig and South Lake Tahoe’s Jamie Anderson. In the Men’s division, Daniel Ek, also out of Norway, assumed second place, while 15-year-old Tyler Flanagan snatched third. Rounding out the Women’s top three are old school ripper, Janna Meyen-Weatherby, who continues to slash the goods, and Newport Beach local Chanelle Sladics.

Under crystal blue skies, the riders wrecked the setup during their runs. Although some competitors spoke of a closer proximity between features, it was not noticeable from a viewer’s standpoint. Andreas Wiig was popping huge off the kickers as he spun his way to first. Tyler Flanagan stomped his run perfectly and was stoked to rank third behind Daniel Ek. First-place finisher Jamie Anderson was all smiles as she wandered around after her Prelim, visibly excited for the chance to beat out Spencer O’Brien at tomorrow’s Final.

Exempt from the Men’s Prelim were Shaun White, Mikkel Bang, and Torstein Horgmo, due to their overall, top-three tour standings. The same can be said for Women’s Slope leader Spencer O’Brien. Men’s standings are arguably in Shaun’s favor, as he will win the Dew Cup so as long as he finishes in the top-three. However, if Mikkel takes first and Shaun finishes fourth, the Norwegian Torstein will snatch the Cup, due to his more recent win at Mount Snow. In the Women’s division, if Spencer takes third and Jamie places first, the Dew Cup will belong to the South Lake Tahoe rider.
