Note to all mountains holding competitions in the future. If you start to hear “Got the Life” by Korn, and see a dragon coming over the horizon. Fear not. That’s just Colby James West coming to town. We talked to the world class skier and funnyman on Friday.
When we first saw Colby James West this winter, he had adopted the character of Marty Lempkin and was pitching the “Epic Pass” all over Youtube. Several months (and about ten personas) later, Colby has just wrapped up another season on the Winter Dew Tour and sat down to Tweet His Face Off with us.
A man of many talents, Colby suggests that he could be a sketch comedian, a sprinter, a running back, or even a… bullfighter? That might not be necessary though, as Colby’s been making quite a name for himself in the world of freeskiing. His big breakthrough came at Winter X Games three years ago, where he reached the podium in slopestyle. Colby’s biggest highlights this season have come in the superpipe, where he reached finals at Winter X Games and the Snowbasin stop of the Winter Dew Tour. A: Favorite place to ride is Breck. It has a huge jump line and then the pipe. Best of both worlds! Plus tons of hot chicks
Q: As a fan of sketch comedy, what is your favorite SNL skit of all time?
A: “I’m On a Boat” is pretty good. I like the ones where the actors struggle not to laugh too. Good times
Q from @thedewtour : What are your plans for this coming offseason?
A: I plan to ski! S. America & New Zealand as well as coach at Momentum up in Whistler for a few weeks. & ride my motorcycle
Q: Other than skiing, what Olympic sport could you win a gold medal?
A: Probably the 100 meter dash. Those Jamaicans have nothin’ on me!

A: It’s great! Byron Wells and I are working on a rebuttal. We’ll see how it comes out…

A: At the moment I like both.They take different mindsets. I have some big plans for Pipe. Slope is a little less hectic.
Q from @GrantSavidge: If you could be any athlete other than a skier, what would you be?
A: I would be a bullfighter. I bet they do pretty well, if they can stay alive. Or maybe a running back. I’d have to put on some pounds.
