We brought in Fergie Cancade (@goodlife_inc) for this week’s #TYFO session. Fergie runs a marketing agency which represents several freeski athletes, including TJ Schiller and Justin Dorey, so he was able to hit on a lot of industry topics. Turns out that his insight doesn’t stop there though! Here at Alli, we like to do our part to ease the decades of tense relations between America and Canada, so when we found out that Fergie was a pure-blood Canadian, we got him to discuss some of Canada’s finer things, including poutine, hockey, “Trailer Park Boys,” and of course, mullets. Tweet your face off, eh?
It’s about that time, everyone! We’re joined by @goodlife_inc (Fergie Cancade) for today’s #TYFO interview… Let’s get it rolling here!
Just a reminder- keep sending in those questions for @goodlife_inc. We’re giving out @skullcandy headphones to 2 lucky people. Here we go…
A: To keep it really simple, we take care of the business side of being a pro athlete. Let the athlete focus on winning!
Q from @thedewtour : Which athletes are you representing?
A: I work for TJ Schiller, Justin Dorey, Alexis Godbout, Matt Walker, Matt Margetts, Riley Leboe, Bushfield, Bibby, Ian Cosco
Q from @skullcandy : What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen @tjschiller do?
A: I think the craziest thing I saw @tjschiller do was the dub 1620. Although last year’s @espnxgames win was pretty amazing.
Q from @Dmills3: What is the best way to break into the Action Sports Industry and land a job?
A: best way to break in to the action sports industry is to work hard & get to know as many people in the industry as possible
Q: Canada’s greatest export: petroleum, hockey, or the underrated television series “Trailer Park Boys”?
A: Definitely. Marketing budgets are definitely a lot tighter, but things are slowly starting to turn around.
Q from @HankLambo: Dear Fergie, what sort of treats would u like me to send to make u feel better after USA hockey wins gold?
A: You can send me a sincere apology for ever doubting Team Canada. Canada will win in the gold medal game!!!
Q from @rod_knee: what is the best part about your job and this industry?
A: best part about my job & this industry is the athletes I work for and all the people I get to work with. They are the best
Q from @JerseyMichael: what are the pros and cons of being an agent?
A: Pro: I work on projects that I’m truly passionate about, Con: sometimes I feel like a door to door salesman. haha
A: Dirt Nasty – 1980 haha. Probably not even close actually but it would have to be a song that makes me laugh for sure!
Q from @skyhawks88: How do you choose an Athlete to Represent your company?
A: I like to work with athletes that are driven and professional because those traits make it easier for me to promote them.
Q from @ellieculp: What’s the deal with poutine?
A: Poutine is just simply amazing. If it was included in the Canada’s best export question I may have had to answer poutine.
Q from @AllegianceGroup: How well is Goodlifeinc going to do in the industry ski contest at Dumont Cup?
A: I’m going to do much better than @empireattire and that is all that counts.
Ed. note: in case u haven’t heard about poutine yet through Olympics coverage, judge for yourself here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine
A: the mullet is the most embarrassing Canadian fashion trend, but I still can’t help but be stoked when I see a good one!
Q from @Dmills3: What is the biggest difference in advertising in Canada vs. America?
A: America has a much greater population so typically there is bigger sports marketing budgets in the USA compared to Canada
Q from @HewyCanuck: what differences exist n marketing an action sports athlete rather than a more traditional sports athlete?
A: action sports still target a much smaller demographic than traditional sports, although it is shifting more every year
Q from @skullcandy : You are a super hero. What is your power?
A: not scared at all! I’m cheering for the USA right now because if we get a rematch it will be EPIC!!
Q from @Shay_Will: What’s it like living in America’s Loft? (PS. @Empireattire says no way)
Q from @A_Reis3383: I’m a snowboarder and I’m very curious… why do skiers use their poles in the halfpipe???
A: Skiing with poles for me is more comfortable. Might be a question better suited for @Simondumont06. He’s not bad in pipe.
Side note- apparently, any time someone mentions the word “poutine” they are retweeted by a “poutine bot.” Pretty sweet!
A: I think it should be with @Justin_Dorey he is scared of Twitter!
That’s all for #TYFO today. Thanks to @goodlife_inc for joining! The recap will be up soon on allisports.com if you want to relive the magic
Also thanks to @skullcandy for kicking in some headphones. I’ll pick the winners of those soon! Now go catch the end of the USA hockey game
