Mark McMorris Takes the Burton Open Slopestyle Title, Women’s Cancelled

Mark McMorris, Dew Tour‘s Slopestyle and Big Air champ of the 2012 iON Mountain Championships at Breckenridge, Colorado, added another title to his 2012 – 2013 competition killing season with his first place finish at the Burton U.S. Open at Vail, Colorado as part of the Snowboarding World Tour. With heavy snowfall overnight, the riders awoke to a bit of powder on the course making for a slower than average contest in order to hit the course’s three booters back-to-back-to-back. Although McMorris had already laid down his solid run that would eventually take him to the top of the podium, McMorris had a heart palpatation following Torstein Horgmo‘s triple cork but due to a minor scrub earlier in his run he was not able to surpass McMorris’ score. Horgmo finished in second with Chas Guldemond rounding out the podium in third. The overnight change in conditions resulted in the women’s final to be cancelled leaving the top three from the semi-final in position for the final results. Check out all the slopestyle action in the TransWorld Snowboarding edit below, and to read up on how the weather played factor see the article posted on XGames.com.
