What do Greg Lutzka, Dennis Busenitz and Torey Pudwill have in common with amateur skateboarder Jack Olson? They have all gotten fourth place at a Tampa Am Contest.
Jack’s fourth place finish at the 2009 Tampa Am contest puts him in some pretty elite company and proves that he’s no fluke skateboarder that got lucky winning a Gatorade Free Flow Tour contest. Jack is coming up and 2009 saw him work his way up this year’s Free Flow Tour from a third place showing at his home skatepark 3rd Lair in Minnesota. To a second place in Chicago at the Warp Skatepark stop and finally a first place finish at
4 Seasons Skatepark in Milwaukee. Winning the Milwaukee stop qualified him for the Free Flow Tour finals in Salt Lake City and he made the most of the opportunity by winning the contest and earning a right to skate along side the Dew Tour’s top pros in the final stop of the Dew Tour in Orlando, Florida. Even with the bar raised well above his head and skating against some of his skateboarding heroes, Jack managed respectable fourteenth place finish in the all pro contest.
The Tampa Am contest is arguably the top amateur contest in the world and a solid measuring stick for the skateboarding industry as team managers flock to this contest not only in support of their current ams but also to scout new up and coming talent.

Jack’s solid showing in this contest is a great accomplishment and proves that the Gatorade Free Flow Tour is a viable route for amateur skateboarders to gain not only contest experience but also a clear path that can lead to a professional skateboarding career. Just ask Chaz Ortiz.
