Dirt Qualifiers Start Things in Chicago

The first contest of the Nike 6.0 BMX Open is in the books.

BMX dirt open qualifiers just wrapped up here at the Nike 6.0 BMX Open in Chicago, and the top 13 riders have all earned their way into the prelims taking place tomorrow.

Claiming the top spot in the competition was Australian Andy Buckworth, with fellow countryman Jaie Toohey finishing less than a point behind him.

Perennial Dew Tour park competitors Morgan Wade, Gary Young and Seth Klinger threw their hats into the dirt ring and advanced to the prelims, while dirt regulars Nate Berkheimer and Cory Nastazio followed suit and moved on to tomorrow’s round of competition.

But the story of the day was BMX dirt newcomer Brett Banasiewicz, who took 10th in the open qualifiers. After making a name for himself as the youngest rider on the park course for the 2009 Dew Tour, Banasiewicz added dirt to his resume for the 2010 season.
