Dew Tour Long Beach 2016: Day Three Practice Photos

The final practice day at Dew Tour Long Beach concluded Friday with even more of the world’s best showing up and throwing down in preparation for the weekend to come.

Taking over the Long Beach Convention Center parking lot are four unique skateboard course broken down by obstacle type. The courses are tech, rails, transition and gaps, and each course requires its own fair share of practice for the athletes to feel confident as they go into the weekend’s events.

Still, every skater has their own approach to practicing. Some like to practice a lot, some a little. Some have even opted not to practice on certain courses. In the end, they will all get the same amount of time to skate during the events.

Cyril Jackson from Baker Skateboards has been practicing a lot. For Cyril it is all about repetition.

“I just have to skate it everyday and get used to it, so I don’t look too crazy out there. I’ve been coming every day trying to break it in, and day by day it gets a little bit better,” said Cyril.

However, he made it clear that he only applies that philosophy to the more street centric courses. As for the bowl, Cyril said, “that’s just going to be a shit show. [Skating the bowl] should be very interesting. I don’t skate bowls ever. We’ll see what happens when I get in there. I’m definitely going to have to wing it and see what happens.”

Sean Malto, though, is taking a very similar approach but is avoiding a different course.

“I skated everything besides the gaps. The gaps are kind of bigger,” said Malto in defense of his decision. “I’ve skated a gap like that plenty of times before. I know what I can and can’t do. I feel like gaps are kind of a cross your fingers and hopefully you don’t get wheel bite.”

Malto may not be spending his time on all of the courses, but he seems to be in favor of the way things are broken up.

“I think the [various courses] are cool. This way it doesn’t play to one person’s strengths, it is about being an overall well-rounded skater. All of the courses are built really well, too. I think it will be a good time.”

Echoing that same sentiment, Vincent Alvarez was pumped on the layout with multiple courses saying, “I like to skate everything, and I don’t really like to stick to any one particular part of a course. I think it is really cool that it gives people who can skate everything an opportunity to showcase their skill.”

Regardless of how they each practice, everyone is having fun together on the practice days.
