Chaz Ortiz Continues His Podium Run Taking First Place In SLC
It seems pretty appropriate that the last stop on the Dew Tour will be taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Dew Tour skate park finals have been more like a game of roulette with five different winners in the last five contests dating back to last year. Today Chaz Ortiz became the first repeat winner in over a year.
In one of the tightest finals in Dew Tour history, Chaz Ortiz took first place at the Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City where he has now won twice in the last three years, and this was the fourth win of his Dew Tour career. The battle in the final jam saw all six skaters trading trick for trick and in the end, Ortiz narrowly edged out Greg Lutzka by less than four tenths of a point.
Paul Rodriguez started slow but became more and more consistent as things progressed, but even with his arsenal of switch tricks he could not overtake the top three to get back on the podium after his win last month in Portland.
The other Ryan, Ryan Decenzo skated like he was having the most fun and at times it looked like he didn’t even know what trick he was going to pull until he was riding away. He was rewarded with a fifth place finish, his best of the tour so far this year.
After a long absence from a Dew Tour final, Carlos De Andrade skated solid and took the sixth place, which also his best finish so far this year.
Sierra Fellers recovered nicely from missing the finals in Portland and landed in the seventh spot just missing a place in the final jam.
Rounding out the top twelve were Jereme Rogers in eighth, the always smooth Bastien Salabanzi in ninth and Fabrizio Santos took the tenth spot just like he did in Portland. Local Favorite Adam Dyet felt the weight of Salt Lake on his shoulders and could not put it together like he did in the prelims and ended in eleventh and Andrew Pott, despite a bad ankle, made his first final and took twelfth.
