Newcomer Pedro Barros Claims Dickies OQ Award

Pedro Barros, the 15-year-old skateboarding phenom, has been tabbed as the winner of the Dickies Open Qualifier Award after taking fourth place overall in the skate vert finals over the weekend.

With tough competition coming from skate park athletes Eli Reed, Sierra Fellers and Bastien Salabanzi, as well as fellow vert skaters Ronaldo Gomes and Sam Beckett, Barros’ fourth-place finish in Saturday’s skate vert finals edged out the rest of the open qualifiers for the award.

Brazilian-born Barros is best known for his abilities in a bowl, but that didn’t stop him from beating out more experienced competition every step of the way. After claiming third place in the Open Qualifier round of competition, Barros then bested himself, taking second in the prelims.

In his first Dew Tour final, Barros kept his momentum going and finished above Dew Tour veterans Bucky Lasek, Adam Taylor and Anthony Furlong.

Knowing how difficult it is for an athlete to earn their way onto the Dew Tour, Dickies created the OQ Award to honor the Open Qualifier who advanced the furthest over the course of the Dew Tour’s Skate Open.

With the win, Barros picks up a cool $1,500 and the opportunity to be the face of Dickies. Congrats Pedro!
