Freeski Results: Tanner Hall Invitational + Dumont Cup 2013

This past weekend was a big one in the world of freeski with two great events going down on each coast of the U.S. On the West Coast we had the first-ever Tanner Hall Invitational, hosted at California’s Sierra at Tahoe, that looked to bring the fun back to big competitions with awards given for “Most Unique Use of Feature,” “Best Style” and an overall winner. Unlike most freeski compeition courses, this event only had one object for the riders to be judged on – two quarterpipes with a channel between them aimed to send riders into the hip behind it either right or left. Taking home the overall win was none other than Henrik Harlaut who continues to add to memorable year, while Phil Casabon won both “Most Unique Use of Feature” and “Best Style.”

Then, on the East Coast the Dumont Cup, created by professional freeskier Simon Dumont, returned to Maine’s Sunday River Ski Resort to give those hungry up-and-comers a chance to ride with and compete against some of the biggest names in the game for the fifth straight year. Nick Goepper, 2011 Dumont Cup winner, returned this year to better his results in 2012 where he took second beneath Gus Kenworthy, and following three days of action in the snow he did just that and swapped spots with him for the 2013 results. Goepper’s technical runs down the slope course included a switch right 270 onto the down rail to pretzel 270 off, a switch right 270 onto the cannon rail to a misty 450 safety grab off, a switch right misty 900 with a double japan grab, a left double cork 1260 with opposite tail grab and a switch right double misty 1260 mute grab to end his, “dream run.”
