TJ Ellis Takes Highest Score at BMX Dirt Semi-Finals

The BMX dirt semi-finals just went down and not one single rider held back. It was an all or nothing format with the best two of three runs counting. With the dirt course literally built around the iconic Pioneer Monument in front of the San Francisco Public Library it made for one truly unique contest setting. This stop happens to be the first major dirt jumping contest in the United States this year so all of the riders were hungry for a chance to show what they have been working on in the off season.

TJ Ellis shut it down with a few solid runs that no one else could touch. His first run consisted of a huge back flip no-hander over the first hip, straight into a 450 over the long-and-low and to finish it off sent an unreal front flip tail whip on the last set. This just goes to show that he didn’t come here to play around. Big moves combined with a style all his own makes it obvious why he qualified in the top spot. We mentioned everyone going crazy in the finals and the same goes for Ellis. He is known to put it all on the line and isn’t afraid to do just that.

Second place went to James Foster, a guy who truly puts in work on his bike and continues to progress each and every year. He was also one of the only riders sending tricks down the drop off before the first hit. One of his best runs included a barspin drop in, double tail whip on the big hip, suicide no-hander straight into a double back flip on the last set. With a run like that it was obvious that James came to San Francisco ready to throw down some serious moves. Knowing James he is going to send it even harder in tomorrow’s finals.

Ryan Nyquist secured himself a solid third place finish with huge 360 suicide no-hander’s, 720s and more. His signature style is hard to mistake and he truly knows how to play it cool and seems to always make it to the finals. Call it experience, call it skill but whatever you call it just know that Nyquist is the man and will be giving it his all in the finals.

Kyle Baldock and Dennis Enarson were the last two riders left to go. Each of them were sitting on the roll-in with one chance left to make it into the finals. Both of them are no strangers to making things happen when it comes down to the wire and they each put down runs solid enough to secure them spots in the finals. Kyle made it into the final qualifying spot and Dennis landed himself in fifth. Be sure to tune-in to NBC Sports Network at 11:00 p.m. EST to watch the madness go down in the finals.
